Summer Beach Project: Getting used to it all
Week Two
Week Two was a lot of me just getting used to the schedule. I had some answered prayers, some work realizations, and some fun socializing.
Work
I was at work one day and a couple was mad at me. Everything was fine between us, but something put a wrench into the camaraderie. Unbeknownst to me, I did not scan the second case of water they had on the bottom of their cart. I only scanned one of them. Once it got to paying time, I told them their price and they tried to pay. Unfortunately, the computer froze up and the transaction did not go through. I called my manager over and after piddling around with it, he told me to take them to another register and re-scan all of the items. They were upset about it, but we persevered.I re-scanned everything and it came up to a differently, slightly higher total. They were not happy about it. And before I could even do much, Xavier came back over and basically told them off. He defended me and told them, "If you don't want to buy the stuff, then leave." Afterwards, he assured me and said, "Charis, you didn't do anything wrong. Just make sure you remember to get the cases of water at the bottom next time". This was definitely God's favor. I came to the realization this week that I have decent managers and although they may treat other people questionably, they treat me with respect and that's all I need. God has blessed me with respectable managers.
Pray that I make relationships with some of my coworkers.
Meetings/Quiet Time
Last week, we were tasked to memorize 1 Peter 1:8-9 and for our Word and Prayer training, they asked how many people did it and whoever wanted to recite it could come up and do it. I raised my hand swiftly and eagerly to recite it. They welcomed me up and I recited it in front of the whole SBP 1 group. I was proud of myself and they were proud of me to. I hope that my example encourages others to continue to memorize scripture.
We started working through "gospel fluency", which is being able to accurately share the gospel to people. We used the GMCGR method to plan it out.
- God - God is the creator of the universe, he is love, slow to anger and abounding in mercy. He is faithful and he repays us for our actions. Above all, he is holy and punishes sin.
- Man - We are God's creation and even though we are made in God's image, we sinned against him and so we are unclean in God's eyes. Our sin is punishable by death and have a severed relationship with God.
- Christ - Jesus is God's son and he was sent to die the death that we deserved. This death was required to restore a relationship with God and he did it for us because of his great love.
- Grace - The reason why God did this is not because we are good, cool, or deserving of his love, but because he is gracious. It says in Ephesians 2 that "we are saved through grace, not of works, that no man can boast".
- Repent - To accept this gift, we are commanded to repent of our sins; this means we have to turn from our sinful ways and put on Christ.
I think it's a good way to share all truths of the gospel. The speaker said that if you leave one out, you aren't sharing the whole gospel and you haven't done it justice.
Pray that I gain much boldness to share the whole gospel
Friends
I haven't spent much time with one specific friend yet. I would like one or two friends that I can carry with me after beach project, but I haven't "claimed" anyone yet. I hope I can pursue somebody and spend time with people to deepen relationships. Just like how God provided friendships when I moved to Georgia, he can provide friendships down here in Panama.
I went swimming last sunday and it was good. |

Me, London and Reesa walking to the beach. |
Although the beach is readily available, I haven't been down there much. I think I need to get myself a beach chair so I can crochet on the beach. The sand down there is rough and nearly impossible to get off of you. That is the main reason why I haven't been down there much. Once I get my beach chair, I think I'll go down there more. Walking on the beach is nice though.
